I have been an American Football fan since Channel 4 first started showing highlights in in 1983/4. I took to it straight away and Pam bought me a book expaining the game for Christmas. Supporting the Patriots wasn't a difficult choice. Like for many others, I guess it was the name that did it !
The first game that I still vividly rememmber was Bears 46 Patriots 10 in SB 1986. We even took the lead with a FG after an interception. Bad mistake that! I even seem to recall that 'The Fridge' rumbled in for a TD.
Then 10 barren years until the next SB in 1996 - but another loss to Green Bay. And then the glory years - wow ! You have to be patient in this game. I actually had quite a substantial bet on the Rams in 2001 which I had put on much earlier at odds of about 4-1. Not that I had mixed feelings when Adam stroked over the winning FG! Even though it cost me a grand or two.
My first trip to Foxboro was in 2002 to see the Pats v Green Bay. Unfortunately not one of our better performances. I have though since seen Road Trip victories v Saints, Bears, Eagles and the Rams. All very enjoyable but some of them closer than they should have been.
They were great trips and Boston is a wonderful city. The Road Trips are highly recommended.
