Uk Patriots Superbowl Xlvi Party

Recommended Posts

Okay, so the lockout's behind us, along with Week 1 of the season and a nice little performance from TFB and the boys to get things rolling.

Time to start thinking about this years Superbowl Party.

Obviously, most importantly the date SUNDAY 5th FEBRUARY 2012, kicking off late and ending at stupid o'clock on Monday morning.

Generally the feedback from last years event at The Sports Bar & Grill was very positive, probably just need to try and tweak the menu a little bit if we were to return there.

At this point in time, I'm just trying to get some idea of rough numbers of interested participants, before talking to any venues in any depth.

I would anticipate the cost to be similar to last year, so if you were to budget £30 to cover admission, food and gratuity, you should be OK. (Booze is another matter entirely wink.gif )

If we were to return to The SB & G, the Travelodge next door currently has twin rooms available at £25.50 per room (that's even cheaper than the luxurious Piccadilly Backpackers)

This event is open to all UK Patriots members, young, old, longtimers, newbies, whether you're a site doner or not, everyone is welcome., in fact, the more, the merrier.

Those who are intrerest, please post a reply in the thread in the first instance, and I'll contact everyone a bit later when more details are available.

Cheers Guys

I might be able to make it as it is a lot less distance wise Bournemouth to London, then Barnsley to London, but it will al depend my uni schedule, so put me down for a maybe.

I enquired in Bodeans Tower Hill last week and they are taking bookings at the end of the month apparently, but I guess that will more likely be October. Went into Soho too, but forgot to ask there. Both times were just as awesome as my previous 3 experiences at the two locations! (2 SB parties and Wembley weekend).

I think if it is going to be at SB&G, I'll end up giving it a miss (work pending anyway). Its not that I didn't enjoy the party there last year, its just that the food in Bodeans is, in my opinion, simply amazing, and I thought the food from SB&G I thought was average to be honest, just general pub grub. Some clever options, especially with the sliders (mini burgers), but I didnt think it was as good as the food at Bodeans.

Granted, the viewing experience in SB&G was immensely better, and the ability to move around the room freely to socialise was good, but if I have a tv with the game on, the next thing I want aside from some good company and a beer, is great American food, and you can't beat the Bodeans experience for that. It is definitely worth the excessive cover/food charge, which I didnt feel SB&G was, but thats just my opinion on it. I found the drinks to be expensive too, or maybe that was just me. In past at Bodeans the table Ive been on has just done the 6 Sams/Coors for £x.

If it was at Bodeans, do you think the wager games will be able to be put on again as they were a nice touch last year? I think if theres enough feedback on the SB&G vs Bodeans debate, then maybe a vote would be good? Preferably that pulled pork, wings, and ribs > mini burgers, fries and onion rings.

For the record, London Tower Bridge Travelodge is also £25.50 for that night, a short walk from Tower Hill. For Soho however, Travelodge would be out of the question, unless public transport/taxis are used, and that bumps up both time to roll into bed, and cost.

Those cursed squares... <_<

Put my name down, certainly happy to return to the sports bar.

Ed - First SB party for me was February, so I can't comment on Bodeans.

It's less than a mile from Soho to the Euston Travelodge.

I'm a yes. Prefered Bodeans for the food but the sports bar is a better venue due to location & better for moving around to chat to people & yourbed is less than 1 minute walk.

You know that I'm Bodeans every time (was one of the few who voted that way last year). The sports bar food was poor, but service and venue good. I think there may be another in the Sports bar in the same chain near Victoria?

Must try to get a flag game happening this year.

The piccadilly backpackers was 15 minutes, the Marylebone is 1 minute, Tower Hill, maybe 5 minutes, a happy compromise for the amazing food :P

That was luck, but predicting W.Welker would score a TD from 5 yds at the Uk Patriots Thanksgiving party was pure skill

This is all that matters to me. The food is a secondary aspect. A good view of the TV and plenty of space to mingle, or more importantly get easy access to the bar, is all that really matters.

I have never been to Bodean's so I can't vote against it. But I have nothing against the SB&Grill.

How close it is to the accommodation doesn't matter to me as I will probably be opting for the cheap train tickets again, which means off to Euston station at 5:30 in the morning. I will probably have to get somewhere to stay on the Saturday though as I aint getting on a train on Sunday morning to get to London at around 5 or even later.

I suspect people voting against the viewing and socialising at Bodeans, may be comparing it to the downstairs room which I believe was used a couple of years ago. I would vote against the Bodeans basement too. However, upstairs has very good viewing, close tables, high swivel chairs, beer on tap and a lot more atmosphere than the SB&G (in my own humble opinion). A much more "American" experience.

The general consensus was if we could get enough people to book the whole top floor, we'd love Bodeans. I've been to Bodeans a couple of times and the food is exceptional so I would happily go there if we could get a similar viewing experience to that of the Sports Bar and Grill.

What are the chances we can get the top floor to ourselves and how many would we need?

Saying that, I love the location of the sports bar and grill in Marylebone....so convenient! There is another one in Victoria station yes...and my mate who I ball with and his gf work there...but it's not the same layout as the one in Marylebone and we wouldn't be able to have our own room like we had. A lot smaller and more cramped too. I went there for David Haye's last fight.

Put me down as a yes :)

Put me down for at least 2 for the SB party.

Booking the floor at Bodeans sounds great to me.

According to the website, there is a new SB&G at Farringdon, in addition to Marylebone and Victoria.

Farringdon has a Travel Lodge nearby (5 mins walk, but a fiver cheaper than Marylebone). It's a minute from the tube and has a private "Scarlet Bar" which can be hired.

For Victoria, the best Travelodge would be Waterloo, but I think that's mainly double rooms. I'm happy to rekkie Farringdon and Victoria, but with it's proximity to stations and hotel, Marylebone is probably the best in the chain. They were quite good, letting us decorate, private bar etc. A bit too "modern" for my taste, and a real shame about the grub, but otherwise it worked well. And there's a Boris rank outside for easy bike access.

If it's Bodeans, I vote Soho over Tower Hill any day if we are 20+ people. Much better atmosphere. On a Sunday, the City is shut once the Tower Tourists have gone home (which is very early in February).

I'm in. I agree that Bodeans wins on the food front but our own room was pretty good and aided the SB squares and predictions. I'd be happy to stay with SB&G.

All the gambling that was going on at SB&G last year added some spice to it. If we are neutrals for the game (hopefully this wont be the case) then it makes it that bit more interesting. If we are able to get the same set up at Bodeans and if we can get our own private room or a floor to ourselves then by all means go for Bodeans.

We would have to be 40+ to take over all of upstairs Bodeans, but a few outsiders have added plenty of spice in the past. There's not really room for a large "squares" board, but to be honest, the maths for that did my head in at 2am and 7 pints down.

It's been a long time since I posted. You can put my name down for being interested, I've never experienced a Super Bowl party before and what a better time to do it with fellow UK Patriots fans!

Can you put me down for a place please Mark? :)

Looks like i'll have to go via Glasgow now as Ryanair stop their Prestwick-Stanstead route on the 29th October. If i didn't have a friend working for them i would wish them nothing but financial ruin and bankruptcy

Good luck - the NFL bought up every hotel room in Indy months ago. The oil drum will be a great Super Bowl venue, but I expect a heck of a lot of people moaning about how far they have to stay from the city.

Yeah, I'd already scouted on hotels.com and all that was a available that weekend was a motel about 4 miles from downtown for £250 a night...

Might have to go with a package deal...

SB for my brother and myself wouldn't be the same without our annual UK Patriots trip to 'that London' - so please put me down + 1.

SB&Grill in Marylebone preferred, as we're already booked in at the Travelodge next door....!!...

We should all be available this year - any skiing trip will be later in February or March.

So that's a yes from me, Pam and Andy.

A maybe (as always :S I know.... ).

Bodeans Soho would be first choice, though SB&G at Marylebone ain't bad.

I'd agree with most that the SB&G is a better venue but it can't match the food at Bodeans.

Bodeans is also much easier to get to south london.

It doesn't really matter that much as I'm extremely unlikely for this one, but i'm glad that the squares and the props board were a success last year.

Mark - let me know if you need the templates for the boards - can't remember if I sent them to you already

either bodeans or Sports bar+grill, i thought the atmosphere was great at the sports bar, the ribs were good, not quite bodeans, but still recommendable.

First week in march would be good for skiing(mrs Bru's big birthday) shh.
