UK Patriots Superbowl XLVIII Party

Recommended Posts

Certainly the majority would prefer London as the venue, and that is what we will be working towards.

However, if anyone does fancy a trip to Hooters in Nottingham, I'm sure that Patsman73, Flipper & Sunny would make them more than welcome there.

Chinese New Year in London is one of the most spectacular in the West with over 300,000 people taking part in the celebrations across the capital last year. This year, the Year of the Horse, Chinese New Year falls on 31st January and the London celebrations take place on the Sunday following, 2nd February 2014, with a number of activities taking place in Chinatown, Leicester Square, Shaftesbury Avenue and Trafalgar Square. Festivities begin at 10am with a parade which begins at Duncannon Street, moving along Charing Cross Road and Shaftesbury Avenue. An official opening ceremony then takes place in Trafalgar Square with speeches from special guests. Once officially opened, the real celebrations kick off with Dragon dancing, music and performances on the Trafalgar Square stage. Join the throng in a stall-covered Chinatown for fun and firecrackers on and around Gerrard Street, Lisle Street and Shaftesbury Avenue where there are impromptu parties, food stalls and lion dancing.

:)Its grim down south

Looks like its a university football sb party this year again, we are the ukpatriots and not the London patriots righty!

Check the thread. Discussion was welcomed for alternatives and the majority favoured London. Like it or not, as a capital city it will be easier for most people to reach from anywhere in the UK. I live in London but was happy to have somewhere different for a change. Remember that the people organising the events on this forum do so in their own time for no reward (other than the opportunity to meet up with Warren, obviously) and we should appreciate their efforts. You had the opportunity to suggest an alternative venue but decided to do no more than criticise the work of others. Not very constructive

Rant over, looking forward to the usual good time that comes with this party, wherever it may be!

The consensus seems to be London so that's what we'll go with. Had there been a higher demand to go elsewhere then naturally we'd have happily gone with the majority.

London is easier for a lot of people even all the way up North. In advance there are some extremely cheap train fares and we often pair up and find great deals on Premier Inn's or other branded hotels to cheapen the cost further.

That's "all the way OOP North" to you, Damo.

Weirdly enough, it's quicker and cheaper to go from Manchester to London, than from Manchester to Nottingham - so in these days of austerity it would be a bit of a no-brainer :-) (if we were going).

Thinking of making an appearance Saturday night for the divisional round?

So sorry! All this time of being back in the south, I have lost all the northern in me!

Unfortunately that work thing gets in the way Damien. I can't commit to showing up as I don't know if I'll finish on time. I may make an appearance but it will be a last minute thing.

Not sure if it's of any interest to the people sorting out the venue for this years playoff and Superbowl meet-ups, but I went to a few regular season games at the Hippodrome Casino in Leicester Sq this year and in my humble opinion it is the best venue I have every been to in London to watch NFL coverage. I understand that they have a cinema screen in the basement that they use for the playoffs which sounds good but I have only every been to the first floor area which has a great selection of tv's all over the place and a really good atmosphere which is exclusively NFL fans......unlike most sports bars in the uk which usually contain a bunch of ignorant fools asking why you are watching a game that has 'poofs in pads'.

I've also heard good things about the Hippodrome. I can understand the attraction, but I won't attend if the party is held in a casino (personal position - I'm not asking anyone else to agree with me).

the venue we have used has been ideal. we have a sort of closed off area. own bar it works.

the only issue is the volume of food. otherwise all good

I heard that the Hippodrome no longer broadcasts game pass games. Apparently the NFL clamped down and the Hippodrome complied.

Thats correct, at one stage it should every game that was being played, now they are restricted to the games being aired on sky and channel 4.

Thats fair enough, and as someone who hasn't attended many of the events you have held I wasn't attempting to change popular opinion about where you like to go. I just mentioned it as an aside.

I guess from your comment that you don't go to Las Vegas that often then ?

Bit late to this but I would vote London too. Easy ride on public transport makes all the difference. Can see how Nottingham would be a better bet for those in the North East and Midlands though.

Enticing!

If they were able to cope with the numbers and it was viable, it'd be interesting to compare it to the Sports Bar & Grill.

Saying that, the SB&G offer us our own area...I doubt they would be able to offer it. You could ask the question however.

I've emailed them Warren to see what is available for a group booking such as ours.

I will post the info as soon as they get back to me.

its an idea we could also have a UK Pats bowling comp

I would be up for a bowling comp.

in a recent one with friends and relatives I was 2nd (my son was 1st, but he had won the past couple of tournaments anyway)

I'm a bit late seeing this too... definitely count me in if it's London... if it did end up being somewhere else like Nottingham I'd only be a 'maybe'. But it seems like the consensus is London now, so that's good :-)

I've had an initial discussion with their events manager, who is coming back to me soon with some proposals from their side having indicated the type of thing we would be looking for. I'll update as soon as I have the details.

I have no intention what so ever of booking Karaoke.

But a bit of bowling for the UK Pats 10 Pin trophy is a different matter

Is the venue likely to be either Bloomsbury lanes or SB& Grill and not another venue?

If anyone else is coming from the North East/Scotland I've just booked my tickets with the east coast sale £20 return from Newcastle. Its the last day of their sale today.

As a place to watch the game Warren, better or worse?

Leahy I don't know the arrangements for this year but you usually have to pay in advance for these, SB&G gets very busy on SB night. Cost last year was around £30, including food.

I'm afraid there will be no facility for payment on the door for the UK Patriots Superbowl Party all monies will need to be paid in full in advance, probably by Friday 24th January 2014. Check this thread Monday or Tuesday for an update on venue, menu, costs & timings etc.

Much worse. The layout is horrible. Fortunately it cleared enough for the late game and we snagged some very good seats, If it's busy, you need to rely on luck to get a good view.

The upstairs bar side bar at SB&G is unchanged, so if we have a big enough group we'd still be OK. But the basement is now pretty awful from a sports watching perspective, and the bar prices, already steep, have got worse £3.50 for a pint of Pepsi! No wifi downstairs either.

That bit is probably an improvement. There is nothing worse at a social event than to have everyone playing with their mobile phones all evening.

Has anyone applied for this? Have applied every year to no avail. Maybe I can slip a couple of £20s to the bouncers.

Has anyone been to one and what was it like?
