A shame he never got the chance here due to the illness. A few weeks back he said he was good to go so something must have happened...

First and foremost its a huge shame for the lad.

From a team point of view, a third round pick (am I right in saying our first pick in last years draft?) that never once put the uniform on for us....that's bad stuff.

Pulmonary embolisms are nasty - lost my father to one and almost my wife too. As well as being life threatening, they destroy lung tissue and you may never restore full function. And depending upon the underlying cause, you might be on blood thinners for life, which is not conducive to a career in elite sport.

We took Rivers at 83, Garcia at 85; both in round 3
